Senator Appointed for the Interdisciplinary programs
Sophomore Nicholas Andrew was appointed to the College of Interdisciplinary Programs of the Associated Students of the University of Nevada on Wednesday, Oct. 1. He ran against two others and won by an unanimous vote.
Fellow senator of the Interdisciplinary Programs, Alex Sung, endorses the new appointment.
“I think candidate Andrew is far and away the best candidate here,” Sen. Sung said. “[Nicholas] has some really solid goals, that are really tangible, and I really like the projects that he discussed with me.”
Sen. Andrew has three main goals that he would like to pursue during his time with ASUN.
“I want to connect faculty to students, integrate undeclared students into the university community and help members of the Wolf Pack achieve their post-graduation goals,” Sen. Andrew said.
To achieve this, Sen. Andrew has a three-part plan: create a centralized list of researchers who are actively looking for undergraduate assistants, create outreach programs for undeclared students looking for tutoring and establish a Pre-Professional Committee.
Senate reports: personal initiatives of senators
Sen. Quinn Jonas College of Liberal Arts
Sen. Jonas proposes the Senate begin working with the Writing Center to combat the issue of gaps between fees allocated and growth in student enrollment, which is causing them to turn away students for the first time.
Sen. Ryan Hood College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources
Sen. Hood advocates making teacher evaluations public. He believes that this will provide students with a more reliable, less biased evaluation than ratemyprofessor.com.
Sen. Raina Benford College of Health Sciences
Sen. Benford is working on changing bathroom signage to be gender-neutral. She is also working with the Center for Cultural Diversity on this issue. The Center has recently added a section on their mobile app that provides both information about gender-neutral bathrooms and their locations on campus.
Sen. Anthony Ramirez College of Engineering
Sen. Ramirez is working with the Dean of the College of Engineering to reestablish its Alumni Association. The association has been dormant for the past few years, and Sen. Ramirez believes it will provide more opportunities for engineering students.
Sen. Ryan Suppe School of Journalism
Sen. Suppe is working to bring back the Artemisia, the old school yearbook. He claims that this will provide journalism students with another outlet to publish their work.
