ASUN Officer Reports

Speaker of the Senate Caden Fabbi commended Sen. Zachary Brounstein of the College of Engineering for his efforts in establishing University Day which took place Sunday, March 8 at the University of Nevada, Reno. Fabbi estimates that 40 students attended the volunteer event, during which they planted trees near Lombardi Recreation Center and picked up trash around campus.

“I think it is the start of new tradition on our campus to be continued for years to come,” Fabbi said.

On a different note, Fabbi reminded the Associated Students of the University of Nevada senators that their last senate meeting will be on Wednesday, April 8. He urged them to turn in any legislation by April 2.

Committee Reports

Civic Engagement

Committee chair Sen. Rosalie Ferebee of the College of Business announced Civic Engagement’s upcoming project, Service Palooza, scheduled for Tuesday, March 31. There are still more details to come.

The Civic Engagement committee also informed the senators of the locations of its Read Education Awareness Drive bins. Currently, there are four bins located off campus at Big Frog Custom T-shirts and More store, Dreamer’s Coffee House, Bibo Coffee Co. located on Record Street and City Hall. There is one bin at the Joe Crowley Student Union.

The donation drive is expected to end on Friday, March 27 but Speaker Fabbi considered extending it to allow for a greater number of books.

University Affairs

During its last meeting on Friday, March 6, the University Affairs committee decided to shift its focus. It will move from being a liaison for university-provided services to promoting the services through videos. The videos will be titled Services with Suppe since Sen. Ryan Suppe of the Reynolds School of Journalism will be the videos’ main figure. One of the services that the committee plans to highlight is Campus Escort and the service’s recent changes. Campus Escort now requires riders to present their student ID. Sen. Abby Feenstra of the College of Liberal Arts feels it’s important that students are made aware of the change to avoid denied ride requests. Other services that the committee is interested in highlighting include @One Media Checkout Lab, the Counseling Center and MyNevada’s schedule planner.

The committee hopes to release the finished videos on the ASUN Facebook page and website.
