Staff Report

An armed robbery was reported to University of Nevada, Reno Police services around 3 p.m. today near West Stadium Way between Mackay Stadium and the West Stadium Parking Garage.

According to John Trent of UNR’s Office of Marketing and Communications, UNR’s Chief of Police Services Adam Garcia  stated that the crime was reported by a female student after two suspects described as armed, masked men stole her belongings. The suspects were last seen fleeing north on Virginia Street.

A campus-wide security alert was issued around 4 p.m. via text message and email. Two updated alerts have followed revealing that the suspects were identified as two “white males [wearing] jeans and masks.”

While more details have been released via the alert system since the initial message, it has not been made clear what the suspects were armed with.

“I asked Chief Garcia about that and no, they don’t have that information yet,” Trent said.

According to UNR’s website, the emergency alert system is reserved for “emergency/life-threatening or unexpected campus closure alerts,” but students and faculty are not being warned of any impending danger.

“I think [the alert] is to make people aware that there was a crime reported … and also what was indicated to me that Chief Garcia said was that the incident is over and the campus is operating as usual,” Trent said.

The suspects are still at large, and anyone with information based on their description is asked to call UNR Police Services.
