The Nevada women’s swim and dive team has a 5-0 record and finished fifth place with 327 points at the Art Adamson Invite at Texas A&M.
Nevada placed in the top five in seven events, and top 10 in eighteen events. The placings include both preliminaries and the final events.
The Wolf Pack’s best event was the 100 yard breaststroke final and preliminary. Two swimmers placed in the top five in each event. Senior Donna dePolo took second in the finals with a time of 1:00.47 which added 17 points to the team. Senior Wiktoria Samula placed fourth, scoring 15 points from her 1:00.82 race. dePolo and Samula’s preliminary times qualified them for the finals. dePolo took second in the preliminaries and Samula was in third.
In the 1,650 yard freestyle, Caitlyn McHugh finished in third with a time of 16:33.10, gaining Nevada 16 points.
Nevada had two swimmers take fifth place in both the 800 yard freestyle relay and the 200 yard breaststroke. The senior-packed team for the 800 included Julia Adamczyk, Mari Vignoli, McHugh and dePolo. Their total time was 7:25.35, which gained 28 points for Nevada. In fifth place in the 200 was dePolo, who added 14 points to the scoreboard with her 2:13.40 race.
The next fastest Nevada racer was McHugh, who finished in sixth in the 200 yard freestyle. There were seventh place finishes by McHugh and the relay A team in the 500 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley relay, respectively. The relay A team consisted of Josien Wijkhuijs, Samula, Adamczyk and Berkenfield. In the 200 yard freestyle relay and 400 yard medley relay, Nevada had both relay A’s take eighth place. The freestyle relay A included Wijkhuijs, McHugh, Nikki Jasko and Berkenfield. The medley relay A included Wijkhuijs, dePolo, Adamczyk and McHugh. There was one ninth place finish by Wijkhuijs in the 100 yard butterfly and a tenth place finisher by Gianni Pitto in the 400 yard IM and by Wijkhuijs in the 100 yard backstroke.
A Nevada swimmer did not finish in the top 10 in three events: the 200 yard IM at fourteenth place, the 50 yard freestyle at thirteenth place and the 200 yard backstroke at twenty-first.
Overall, the Wolf Pack finished with 327 points. In first place was the University of Southern California with a score of 1090.5.
The swim and dive season is now finished with their preseason and will have a break until conference play starts in January.
