Nevada bounced back after a tough loss against Colorado State to defeat Boise State. This win helps the Wolf Pack improve to 18-9 on the season.
Nevada had a good all around team performance but the scoring only came from a few people.
Senior guard Da’Ja Hamilton had an impressive game as she finished with a game high 22 points, two steals, and one rebound. She was incredibly efficient as she shot 6-11 from the field while going a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Lexie Givens ended with seven points and four rebounds.
Senior guard Kylie Jimenez did not put up high assist numbers this game but she still had five points, three rebounds, and two assists. The main great performances, besides Hamilton, came from the bench.
Freshman guard Audrey Roden was on fire tonight as she finished with 17 points and four rebounds. She shot 6-9 on field goals and was a strong 3-5 from behind the arc. Finally, senior guard Nia Alexander ended with an amazing 20 points, five rebounds, and one assist on an efficient 8-12 from the field.
Nevada started the game off strong with good defense and offense. Hamilton got Nevada going connecting on three free throws for the first points of the game. Kylie Jimenez hit on a three pointer and Alexander cashed in two free throws. The Wolf Pack were up 8-3 with six minutes left in the first quarter.
Nevada continued to score as Hamilton hit a three, Givens knocked down two free throws, and Alexander connected on back-to-back jumpers. The score was now 17-7. However, Boise State responded with a run of its own. Nevada was unable to successfully close out the quarter and Boise State got the lead to within two.
Nevada started the second quarter up 19-17. The Wolf Pack offense was slowing down but they were able to rely on scoring from Alexander and Roden. Alexander hit on a jumper, Givens made a layup, and then Roden finished two layups of her own. The score was now 27-21 with Nevada up with four minutes left in the second quarter.
Nevada went on a 10-0 run thanks to two baskets from Alexander and back to back threes from Roden. Boise State responded with some points but regardless Nevada took a 37-24 lead into halftime.
Nevada came out sluggish to start the second half. They struggled to score and their staunch defense began to deteriorate. Sophomore guard Alyssa Jimenez made a jumper but that was the only bucket Nevada had for roughly the first four minutes of the third quarter.
Alexander and Hamilton each added a bucket and Roden cashed in another three pointer including two free throws. The Wolf Pack were leading 49-37 with three minutes to go in the quarter. Unfortunately, the Nevada offense went cold again as they did not score for the rest of the quarter. Nevada was up 49-45 to end the third quarter.
This lead was quickly erased as Boise State scored with back-to-back baskets. The game was tied at the eight minute mark. The teams began to go back-and-forth on the offensive end. Hamilton made a layup and Alexander hit on a jumper. A reason that the Wolf Pack were able to stay competitive in the game was their incredibly efficient shooting from the free throw line.
Alexander and K. Jimenez each knocked down two late free throws. Nevada was down 63-59 with two minutes left in the game. It was in fact Da’Ja time as Hamilton made a layup and cashed two clutch free throws with a minute left. Nevada was able to get back-to-back stops to take the game to overtime.
Overtime started with two Givens free throws and a Hamilton jumper. Boise State responded with three baskets of their own. However, Hamilton could not be stopped as she hit on two more free throws to tie the game 69-69 at the two minute mark. Both teams continued to score and keep the game competitive.
