Nevada women’s soccer traveled to Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday, Oct. 4 to take on the Lobos in a Mountain West showdown. The Wolf Pack lost the match, 3-1 in Nevada’s third Mountain West matchup of the year.

The Lobos jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, scoring in the 13th and the 24th minute. New Mexico then scored their last goal of the match in the 47th minute.

Nevada had 11 total shots with five being on goal, compared to New Mexico’s 12 shots on goal. Gabby Brown, who leads Nevada in shots, had five more on the night. Sophomore midfielder Casey Crawford scored her first collegiate goal in the second half, ending the shutout by New Mexico. Crawford’s goal was the lone score for the Wolf Pack in the match. 

The midfielder’s second-half goal came in the 77th minute, after securing a tipped ball from freshman Lizzy Hairston. Crawford buried the ball past the keeper into the top right corner. The Wolf Pack now has five goals on the season and has scored in their last three competitions. 

Goalkeeper Kendal Stovall was busy on the night, totaling nine saves in the game. Stovall had multiple finger-tip saves which kept Nevada in a competitive position in the match. Stovall had four saves in the first half and five in the second. The goalkeeper from Hawai’i now ranks second in the Mountain West conference in total saves with 69.

Stovall, Hannah Souza, Lizzy Hairston and Audrey Barham played all 90 minutes of the match. The three goals surrendered by Nevada, are the most given up in a single game this season.

Nevada is now 2-8 on the season, and 1-2 in the Mountain West. The team will have to recover quickly, as they have three opponents within the next week. The silver lining in this is that they host two of them, Colorado College on Oct. 11 and Air Force on Oct. 13. Both games will be played in Mackay Stadium.
