After the Reno-Sparks Washoe County area was certified as a bicycle friendly community in 2011, the Regional Transportation Commission brought up the question, “Why can’t the University of Nevada, Reno become a bicycle friendly university?”

Since that question was posed, Amy Fitch, chair of the UNR Campus Cycling Committee has been collaborating with numerous departments on campus, such as Facilities Services and Parking and Transportation Services, to help UNR become a certified bicycle friendly university.

As the university creates its master plan for the next 10 years, the CCC is hoping that officials will consider cyclists.

The CCC needs support from students in order to show officials that there is a population of students whom would benefit from having a more bicycle friendly university.

So the CCC has created a survey in an effort to gauge student support.

“We really want people to fill out the survey so we can get a good sense of how many people are riding bikes,” Fitch said. “If they aren’t, why not? Is there anything we can do to get them to ride bikes? And it will help us to advocate for this as an important issue that the university should be paying attention to and giving resources to.”

The link to the survey is given below and participants will be entered into a raffle for Wolf Shop gift cards between $25 to $50.

Below are a few examples of how UNR could improve campus to become more bicycle friendly, according to Fitch.
