The first week back to school has been crazy, but hopefully as you start to get back into the groove of things, the in-person transition will run more smoothly. Here’s a collection of some upcoming events to help.
Campus-Related Events:
9/1: Kick-Off Career and Internship Fair
For any students looking for internships or full-time/part-time positions, the career fair is the place to look. The Kick-Off Career and Internship Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Joe Crowley Student Union Ballrooms.
Off-Campus Reno Events:
8/16-9/5: Kids Art Camp Exhibit
At North Tahoe Arts in Tahoe City, a bunch of young artists from the Kids Art Camp of 2021 have put out their work from the summer. Come support them if you haven’t already in their art show anytime from August through September.
8/17-9/7: Playa Made: Jewelry of Burning Man
The Sierra Arts Foundation presents the exhibition “The Jewelry of Burning Man”, curated by Christine Kristen. Admission is free and will be accessible to the public from noon to 4 p.m. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t miss it!
8/31: Megadeth and Lamb of God Concert
Megadeth and Lamb of God, two popular heavy metal bands, are joining forces on a tour that goes across North America. The great news is that they are stopping by the Reno Events Center for a performance on Aug. 31. The event will start at 6 p.m. and masks will be required, regardless of vaccination status. Don’t miss this awesome performance.
9/1-9/29: Life Drawing: Open Studio
Every Wednesday, starting Sept. 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Nevada Museum of Art, any artist of eighteen years or older can attend this open studio event to improve their life drawing skills. The instructor is Jerry Stinson, and all attendees are allowed to use any medium of their choice. During the event you will be drawing from male and female nude models. If you are interested, don’t miss these classes!
9/2: Mountains, Cliffs and Mesas: Cliffs by the Sea by Oliha Darchuk
In a class, taught by Karen Hayes on Sept. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. you can “learn how to realistically depict ranges with various art tools — from the palette knife to the fan brush.” If you’re of any artistic level and are interested in being able to skillfully draw different landscapes, check out this class in the Garden Pavilion! Tickets can be bought online for $35.
9/7-10/4: Advanced Photoshop Online
Are you looking for some outreach classes to boost your skill levels? There is an advanced photoshop course available online from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday starting Sept. 7. It is an advanced course, so it is for users already experienced with Photoshop to get more creative and efficient in their techniques.
