Campus Events:

9/30: Transgender Transformistas

Dr. M. Leslie Santana, an interdisciplinary writer, teacher and performer, will host  a talk about performance connections to racial, sexual or economic transformations on Sept. 30. The event will be held virtually from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

9/31: Manhattan Shorts Film Festival

KUNR and the Joe Crowley Student Union at the University of Nevada, Reno present the 2021 Manhattan Shorts Film Festival. The film festival will be screening in over 250 cinemas, and you get to be the judge to vote for your favorite. The event will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the third floor of the JCSU in the theatre. Tickets are $15 for general admission and can be found online.

10/05: Engaging the Power of Diversity: Visual Artist and Activist Julio Salgado

Visual artist Julio Salgado will discuss topics of immigration, queerness and media representation for people of color and the LGTBQ+ community on Oct. 5 in the JCSU Theatre. Salgado will show the audience how to use art to confront societal ills in the media. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Off-Campus Events: 

9/8-10/5: Viewpoints 3 – Flora and Fauna of the Western United States

The Sierra Arts Foundation will be showcasing a number of quilts that depict the natural beauty of the western United States starting on Sept. 8 and continuing through Oct. 5. The event is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m at the Sierra Arts Foundation Main Gallery.

9/29-10/02: OffBeat Music Festival 2021

Don’t miss the annual OffBeat Music Festival. They’re back this year with “the option of discovering new music from a choice of 60+ performances over 3 days at different locations around the core of Reno.” Tickets are available online now, so go buy them while you can. The event will be held from Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. to Oct. 2 at midnight.

9/30-10/02: Reno Ukulele Festival

The Reno Ukulele Festival will occur from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday. The event provides free ukulele lessons for beginners, free entertainment and an opportunity to see all types of music wonders.

This kid-friendly music event is open to the public and will be located at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks. Tickets are available online.

10/01: Colbie Caillat at Grand Sierra Resort

Colbie Cailliat, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, will be hitting the Grand Sierra Resort Grand Theatre stage in Reno on Oct. 1. The show starts at 8:00 p.m., but the doors will open at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available online with varied seating prices and have been available since May 21.

10/02: Walk to End Alzheimer’s

On Oct. 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s will walk two miles from the Sparks Marina to raise money for research and support efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Make sure to register before you join the walk.
