The Wolf Pack women’s soccer team has struggled mightily in Mountain West Conference play this year, and last week was no exception.

Nevada (4-10-1, 1-5-0 MW) dropped two games to MWC foes, including a 5-1 thrashing by conference powerhouse San Diego State (11-2-1, 6-0-0 MW). The Wolf Pack then went on to lose a 1-0 heartbreaker to New Mexico (5-4-2, 3-1-2 MW) last Sunday. While budding star freshman Angel Meriwether has been tearing up opposing nets with 13 total points on the year, the rest of the squad has been faltering.

The last-place Wolf Pack have been gunned down this season by allowing over 2.47 goals per game which is more than triple its average of 0.73. Nevada has also been penalized more than its opponents this year by a margin of 129 to 118. Despite playing the most minutes of any player on the squad (1296), an essential part of the Wolf Pack offense from years past, senior forward Chrisalyn Fonte, has also been quiet this season, with only one goal on the year.

Nevada’s quest to the MWC tournament only gets tougher from here. The Wolf Pack will hit the road for four consecutive games, including two in Colorado this next week against both Air Force and Colorado State.
