Last weekend Nevada squared off with Mountain West leader San Diego State. The Wolf Pack dominated the Aztecs in a three-game sweep, taking a two-game advantage in the MW and improving its record to 31-9 (16-5 MW) on the season.

When the Wolf Pack earned its 30th win on Saturday it became the second fastest team to reach 30 wins in the school’s history. Nevada remains in the top 30 in most polls, and it is the only MW team consistently in the mix.

Senior Kewby Meyer was named MW Player of the Week for his performance last week. He batted .600 with 12 hits, one home run and 12 RBI in one game vs. San Francisco and three vs. San Diego State. He hit for the cycle in the sweep of the Aztecs. He improved his season statistics to .339, three home runs and 36 RBI.

Meyer wasn’t the only Nevada player who played well. The Wolf Pack outscored San Diego State 38-12, and the Pack reached 18 hits in three of the four games last week.

“We looked like a professional team in the batter’s box for three days in a row now,” Nevada head coach Jay Johnson said in a press release. “[today’s win] is about as good as it gets, because that’s a tough lineup and a good opponent. Our guys were awesome all weekend long and I’m proud of their focus and execution.”

San Diego State’s junior right-handed pitcher Bubba Derby was in the top 10 in the MW in ERA before Friday night when Nevada jumped on him for seven runs and nine hits. The Wolf Pack went on to win the game 14-3.

On Saturday, Nevada’s senior right-handed pitcher Jason Deitrich earned a team-high fifth win en route to an 8-5 victory. Deitrich pitched for 6.1 innings and didn’t walk a batter.

Sunday’s game was a blowout, similar to game one. Nevada hit three home runs, including a grand slam from Austin Byler. Junior left-handed pitcher Christian Stolo pitched seven innings giving up just two runs on four hits. He improved to 4-1 on the year with a team best 3.06 ERA.

Junior Ryan Howell is still in the top five in the nation in runs batted in and home runs. Byler is third nation-wide with 51 runs.

This week, Nevada will take on last place San Jose State (10-30 (3-15)) at home. Tickets for Friday’s game have already sold out for #PopulatePeccole.
