Nevada Women’s Golf opened their season with a second place finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic that spanned three days from Monday, Sept. 17, to Wednesday Sept. 19. The Wolf Pack finished the team portion of the event in second place — runners-up to Boise State. The second place finish is Nevada’s best start to a season since 2008.

Nevada began the final day 11 strokes behind Boise State, but after the front-nine holes held a one-shot lead. The Broncos took advantage of Nevada’s struggles on the back-nine and would win by two strokes.

Individually, the Wolf Pack would have four players finish in the top 25 for the week — including two finishing in the top 10. Senior Chaithra Katamneni tied for sixth place finishing the tournament even par — the second best finish in her career. Freshman Victoria Gailey finished 10th in her collegiate debut posting a final score of three-over par. Junior Jenny Krause and senior Kaitlin Collom both finished tied for 21st place, at seven-over par.

Head coach Kathleen Takaishi was encouraged by her team’s performance and hopes that it gives them confidence going into their next event.

Nevada returns to the course Sept. 24 and 25 for the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Gonzaga at Coeur d’Alene Golf Resort in Idaho.
