The second Associated Students of the University of Nevada senatorial debate took place Tuesday, Feb. 17 in the Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom. There are two open senate seats in the College of Education, three in the College of Engineering, three in the Division of Health Sciences and one in the Reynolds School of Journalism. REBEKAH COUPER – DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES

PLATFORM:

• Expand opportunities and participation in civic engagement

and community activism

• Collaborate with existing campus organizations to create and

connect students to more sober activities on campus and in

the community

• Increase student involvement and engagement in campus

activities

BRIDGETT BEVILACQUA – COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

PLATFORM:

• Push for greater involvement within all colleges so students

can have a better understanding of their majors

• Create more research opportunities for students, especially for

human development and family studies majors

• Enhance the College of Education’s contribution within the

campus community

CASEY CONNOLLY – DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES

PLATFORM:

• Promote a healthier and physically active lifestyle to all

members of the Wolf Pack community

• Work closely with campus dining in order to promote nutrition

and ensure that all students’ opinions on their dining options

are heard

• Support the university’s decision to be a tobacco-free campus

as of fall 2015 and spread awareness of the policy to all students

MILLIE CARRO – COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

PLATFORM:

• Host town halls with Washoe County officials so College of

Education students can meet future employers and be exposed

to future job opportunities

• Unite the HDFS and College of Education majors through joint

opportunities, programs, events and classes

AUSTIN MATHIAS – DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES

PLATFORM:

• Create more volunteer opportunities throughout the local Reno

community to give students as much outside-classroom

experience as possible

• Expose DHS majors to career opportunities through a Career Day

• Invite local and national professionals in DHS to inspire students

THOMAS GREEN – COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (RUNNING AS A TICKET WITH AMANDA MOORE)

PLATFORM:

• Create more College of Education events

• Increase the amount of students who participate in College of

Education week

• Continue to increase awareness for paid student teaching

programs and volunteer opportunities

JORDAN DYNES – REYNOLDS SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM 

PLATFORM:

• Create town hall meetings where journalism students can meet

with Dynes, if elected, once a week in the J-School and discuss

what is going on in ASUN.

• Work with ASUN to intertwine a kindness week with Welcome

Week that will promote tolerance and raise money for local and

national anti-bullying organizations

AMANDA MOORE – COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (RUNNING AS A TICKET WITH THOMAS GREEN)

PLATFORM:

• Create more College of Education events

• Increase the amount of students who participate in College of

Education week

• Continue to increase awareness for paid student teaching

programs and volunteer opportunities

SADIE FIENBERG – REYNOLDS SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM

PLATFORM:

• Reinstate “Journalism Week” by spreading awareness about

events to increase attendance

• Create a coffee cart/shop for journalism students

• Extend RSJ building hours so students can have access to editing programs, a reliable Internet connection and a quiet workspace for a greater period of time

ALEX CRUPI – COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

PLATFORM:

• Increase academic flexibility through a less rigid structuring of

the engineering curriculum and classes available at more times

• Provide more internship opportunities that are promoted

through the university

• Develop a study lounge for engineering majors

RACHEL LUCAS – COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

PLATFORM:

• Bridge the gap between students and differential fee committees

by increasing student awareness of the committees and

informing students about where their money is being invested

• Increase student involvement in Associated Student of the

University of Nevada through media as well as signage

• Be approachable and willing to communicate with all students

and ensure that their voices are heard

RONIEL PADUA – COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

PLATFORM:

• Draw more interest toward engineering clubs and all other

clubs to help small and new clubs succeed

• Bridge the gap between students and ASUN and inform

students of the goings on of their student government

• Ensure that constituents have a deeper relationship with him,

if elected senator

MATEUSZ PODZORSKI – COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING 

PLATFORM:

• Establish a research database program that will contain a list

of professors who are conducting research along with the area

of research to connect students to opportunities that will help

them find a job after graduation

• Diversify entry-level engineering courses to appeal to different

majors

ANTHONY RAMIREZ – COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

PLATFORM:

• Create a textbook library for the College of Engineering

• Complete the creation of the Alumni Association for College of

Engineering started during the 82nd ASUN session

• Promote and inform students about all the resources offered

by ASUN

• Run for Speaker of the Senate and promote and educate the

students of what senate is doing throughout the week

• Help establish a student-run business on campus

AMANDA CUEVAS – DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES

PLATFORM:

• Establish more resources centered on scholarships and

financial aid to make both more accessible and

understandable to students

• Advocate for a healthier university through food choices and

more collective physical activities

• Provide more civil engagements opportunities for student

learning opportunities
